Vietnam Airlines, Jetstar Pacific Tighten Security, Carry More Passengers around Tet Festival

National carrier Vietnam Airlines and its subsidiary Jetstar Pacific said they have stepped up security to ensure flight safety during the Lunar New Year festival, or Tet, and carried more passengers than last year.

Vietnam Airlines has conducted nearly 8,000 international and domestic flights during the peak of Tet festival between January 20 and February 11, 2019, up nearly 4 percent from the same period last year, serving nearly 1.3 million passengers. Jetstar Pacific, nearly 70 percent owned by Vietnam Airlines, said it carried nearly 300,000 passengers on nearly 2,000 flights during the peak period.

Vietnam Airlines’ Ontime Performance index reached an average of 90 percent, in particularly it hit nearly 98 percent on the first day of the Lunar New Year. The airline’s flights exceeded 500 per day on the two busy days of February 2, 2019 (two days before the Lunar New Year start) and February 10 (or the sixth day of the Lunar New Year).

The airline and Jetstar Pacific have also applied Level-1 security control measures to ensure absolute safety for flights. In addition, the two airlines have arranged priority counters to serve families with young children and the elderly at the airports in Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City.
