Con Dao, one of Vietnam’s most beautiful archipelagoes, is an ideal destination for those who want to discover the unspoiled natural beauty, learn history and experience unforgettable moments with the blue sea and white sand.
Con Dao fully brings together elements of the majestic landscape, including 16 islands and islets, each carrying its own characteristics. Along with that are rich coral reefs, from table-shaped corals (Acropora hyacinthus) and staghorn corals (Acropora cervicornis) to hard, soft corals and colorful marine algae.
Visitors can participate in many nature exploring activities such as diving to watch coral reefs, fishing, exploring a deserted island or witnessing the olive ridley sea turtle nesting and laying eggs on the beach or walking through the Ong Dung, Nui Chua old-growth forests.
This island is a paradise of beaches with idyllic beauty and charm. It is said that coming to Con Dao is to watch the sunset on Dam Trau Beach. The beauty of this place is not only in the immense, blue beach, but also in the rocks with different shapes on the beach. Surely visitors would want to sit down and relax on a big rock, silently listening to the sound of the waves and the wind.
Another beach often mentioned by many is Lo Voi beach, with clear water and pristine white sand. In addition, visitors should not ignore the long beaches with clear blue water such as Nhat beach and Ong Dung beach.
Apart from natural beauty, Con Dao itself also carries a long history.
“From a man standing in Kunlun
His fame may cause an avalanche”
Nationalist Phan Chau Trinh wrote these lines in a poem while being exiled to Con Dao (1908-1910) with a hard labor sentence. Con Lon, or Kunlun, is the largest island of the archipelago.
During the war that ended in 1975, Con Dao was known as the largest political prisoner detention and exile place in Indochina. Con Dao Prison has therefore become a place on the bucket list when touring Con Dao. The place was built by the French colonialists and the American imperialists with hundreds of cells to exile Vietnamese patriots and political prisoners.
At present, most of the sites are still there so visitors could experience a historical period that the previous generation had to go through, where the heroic spirit and strong will were engraved in each stone.
There are many more interesting things in this beautiful island. Let’s fly here with Vietnam Airlines and enjoy the diverse and vivid natural landscape while having an unforgettable vacation with our loved ones.
