Vietnam Airlines Signs Deal for 50 Boeing 737 MAX Aircrafts

Vietnam Airlines and Boeing – the American multinational corporation that designs, manufactures, and sells airplanes, rotorcraft, rockets, satellites, and missiles worldwide have signed a memorandum of understanding on the purchase of 50 Boeing 737 MAX narrow-body aircrafts worth USD 10 billion.

The deal signed on September 11, 2023 in Hanoi held special significance as U.S. President Joe Biden made his official visit to Vietnam and the two countries upgraded their ties to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership level.

Under the deal, the two parties will coordinate closely to research, evaluate, and soon report to competent authorities for consideration, making the basis for promoting further negotiations and completion of the Vietnam Airlines investment.

“Vietnam Airlines is working out a plan to develop its fleet for the 2025-2030 period with a vision to 2035, in which aircraft investment is a key project for the national airline to achieve of the goals and strategic vision set out in the period of recovery and sustainable development.” said Mr. Dang Ngoc Hoa, Chairman of the airline’s Board of Directors.

“The narrow-body aircraft fleet investment project is intended to serve Vietnam Airlines’ development plan and improve the service quality on domestic and Asian routes, and at the same time help us build a modern, comfortable and fuel efficient fleet.”

Vietnam Airlines’ fleet now has 100 aircraft, including 65 narrow-body planes, operating around 100 routes to 21 domestic and 29 international destinations, connecting the world’s major cities with attractive tourist destinations in Vietnam.
